Directory Update
The new year sees a significant shift in the structure of the directory lists. Quite a few of the free directories from last year have converted to pay-for-review models. We have far fewer new directories than those that moved, however the size of the free general directories lists are bolstered with 31 directories returning from the removed lists. The following is the list of directories who have been off the list for most of 2007 but which have corrected their problems and as such have been returned:

Another significant discovery has been made in the blog directories niche. A large number of free blog directories have been located, through collating and culling much larger lists which are full of junk, mixed payment types, general and blog-specific directories, rss directories, non-SEO friendly directories and search engines. We are building this blog directories list live and in real-time on the forum. It's not like those stale blog posts people make where half the directories on their lists are no longer relevant a few weeks after their post is made. We keep track of the directories, and their movements, and adjust the lists accordingly. We are continually making updates to ensure the lists are fresh and relevant.
The remainder of the niche directories have settled after our mass removal towards the end of 2007, and we have another 13 new niche directories coming into the list across a range of topics. We are continually looking for niche directories in all topics and encourage those who have these directories to bring them to our attention at the forum. Once reviewed they will be added to the lists, and we will help to send you targeted traffic.
The Free Banner Advertising on both the Forum and the Site is still available but there are not many spots left. There is a small requirement of 20 posts to be eligible for the offer, which is to ensure that we get legitimate members and not just spammers.
The pay for review list remains locked despite a lot of interest and requests this month for us to re-open them. The middle of the year will see a new listing format in place and only then will we reopen this listing format. Until then we will not be accepting any new pay-for-review directories into the lists.
The forum is slowly growing, with us now at 2900 members. Activity has picked up in the last few weeks, but it would be nice to see a lot more discussion in place for those who are interested in directories, edit directories, or own directories. If you are a directory owner please announce your directory for free at the forum and share it with the rest of the community. It is also beneficial to to find the latest free directories to submit to as they are announced. Quite a lot of directories change from free to pay-for-review before we update the lists, so I suggest once again to get in early before it costs you.
As a side-note many of you will notice that we no longer list featured placements, or have any sponsors other than Google Adsense. We have also removed the Text Link Ads affiliation from the site. This has been done to keep in-line with Google's guideline changes in regards to Paid Text Links. Despite the fact that we disagree with Google's penalisation of many websites, we do believe they are doing the right thing in regards to reducing the manipulative power that many paid links have on their SERPs. The new development of the site will have a range of advertising options designed to deliver traffic to directories and other related sites without impacting the search engines. For now we apologise for removing the availability of all paid advertising.
